obsessive compulsive disorder

What is OCD?

OCD is debilitating and keeps you stuck in a loop of obsessions and compulsions. You're spending hours a day checking, ruminating, and engaging in rituals to find temporary and fleeting relief from terrifying and intrusive thoughts, images and fears.

OCD is caused by a kind of "glitch" in your brain's alarm system. In a neurotypical brain, the alarm deactivates once you solve a problem (ie checking the stove). In OCD, your alarm system gets "stuck," and continues to go off, despite the threat no longer being present. That's what leads to that sense of incompleteness when you're trying to finish a task.

There are many forms of OCD, but they all revolve around a core fear you have.

Exposure and Response Prevention

ERP was specifically designed to break the cycle of obsessions and compulsions, and it’s been clinically proven to significantly reduce symptoms in 80% of people with OCD.

I am currently still in training for OCD and ERP treatment under the supervision of an OCD expert. Section still under construction.
